Straight answers to fair questions.
Everything people usually want to know before hiring an AI consultant — costs, timelines, data protection and where to start.
What does an AI consultant actually do?
Three things, depending on what you need: identify where AI genuinely saves your business time or money (strategy), build the systems that capture those savings (implementation), or teach your team to use AI well themselves (training). The value is judgement — knowing what works, what doesn't, and what it should cost.
How much does AI consultancy cost in the UK?
My pricing is fixed and public: £500 for a 60-minute strategy session, £1,500/day for implementation, £1,200/day for team training, and £5,000/month for the fractional AI officer retainer (25 hours, 12-month minimum). Discovery calls are free.
Is my business too small to benefit from AI?
Almost certainly not. Smaller organisations often see the fastest payback, because a single automated workflow — reporting, document handling, email triage — can free a meaningful share of one person's week. The question isn't company size; it's whether you have repetitive, rule-plus-judgement work. Most businesses do.
How long does an AI project take?
A strategy session is one hour, with a written summary the next day. A single automation typically takes two to five days of build time. Larger systems run a few weeks. Every engagement is quoted fixed-scope up front, so the timeline is agreed before work starts.
What happens to our data? Is this UK GDPR compliant?
Systems are designed around UK GDPR from the start: your data stays in accounts you control, processing purposes are documented, and nothing is used to train AI models without your explicit decision. Training sessions include clear ground rules on what may and may not be put into which tools.
Which AI tools and platforms do you use?
Mainstream, well-supported platforms — commercial large language models and established automation tooling — chosen per project. I take no vendor commission, so recommendations are based only on fit, cost and reliability.
Do you work with businesses outside the UK?
Yes. Yes — clients are worldwide. Work runs remotely over video across all time zones; on-site delivery is available by arrangement.
What's the difference between the free discovery call and the £500 strategy session?
The discovery call is 30 minutes to establish whether and how I can help — no advice deliverable, no pressure. The strategy session is a 60-minute working session on your business, with a written, actionable summary delivered within 24 hours.
Will AI replace our staff?
In practice, well-applied AI removes the repetitive share of existing roles rather than the roles themselves — the reporting, re-keying, chasing and formatting. Organisations typically redeploy that time into work that grows revenue. Where a genuine restructuring question exists, it deserves a considered answer, not a sales pitch.
How do we get started?
Book a free 30-minute discovery call. Bring one process that eats time in your business; you'll leave with an honest view of whether AI can fix it and what that would take.
